Could you refer us to the law that says anything about (TM) or (SM) or
(R)?

I have looked fairly hard, and I do not believe that any such laws
exist, at least in the United States.  There is a law that says
something about the letter R in a circle, but it's entirely optional
at all times, and I see no evidence that (R) is an adequate substitute
for the circle.  I believe that all three are legally meaningless.
